​Auroville is an international, intentional community situated in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. It was founded on February 28th, 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (aka "The Mother") and is rooted in the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo’s “Integral Yoga” and the principle of human unity. Fifty years later, Auroville is one of the biggest intentional communities that exists today. It is home to around 3,000 permanent residents from all over the world and serves as a working laboratory that explores new models of living for a diverse and evolving humanity.
